TE Connectivity launches a range of M12 rail connectors for field assembly that enable data transmission rates of up to 10Gbit per second (according to IEC 802.3an Cat 6a).
The M12 Rail X-Code connectors have full-metal shells to provide all-round shielding against EMI/RFI, says TE Connectivity, and they are sealed against dust and water to IP67 level. They are intended for use in data and sensor networks, train door control assemblies and rail vehicle heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
The compact connectors can be quickly assembled in the field, says TE Connectivity, to meet the trend for transportation to be more connected. Once in place, the M12 Rail-X connectors help ensure very high data transmission rates and avoid network interruptions. Due to the unique torsion free crimped strain relief, they also help keep service costs low, adds TE Connectivity.
The connectors feature machined gold-plated crimp contacts which resist high-vibration environments (DIN EN 61373 Cat 1, class B) and help to provide uninterrupted service throughout the lifetime of the connectors.
All non-metal components (apart from the connector boot) are made in materials that obtain an HL3 rating in the European fire performance standard for materials and components on railway vehicles, EN45545-2. The crimp flange and crimp barrel are both qualified to match the chosen cable. Contacts are available for wire size AWG 22 to 28.
The connectors have an operating temperature range of -40 to +70 degrees C with grip cap, or -40 to +85 degrees C without grip cap. In tests, the M12 Rail-X connectors withstand over 250 mating cycles. Housings are in nickel plated copper alloy, insulator and contact holder are in flame retardant thermoplastic.
For more than 75 years, TE Connectivity’s connector and sensor product range has been used in harsh environments in a variety of market sectors, including transportation, industrial applications, medical technology, energy, data communications, and the home.
