Step down regulator minimises real estate and EMI emissions
Provided in a BGA package, measuring 6.25 x 4.0mm, the LTM8063 is a 40VIN, 2A uModule step-down regulator from Analog Devices.
According to the company, the package size is 75% smaller than the existing equivalent product. With two 0805 size capacitors and two 0603 size resistors, the LTM8063 is only 70mm². The Silent Switcher architecture minimises EMI emissions, adds Analog Devices, enabling the LTM8063 to pass the CISPR 22 class B EMC standard.
The LTM8063 can deliver 2A (2.5A peak) of continuous output current from 12VIN to 5VOUT at an ambient temperature of 85 degree C. The 40V input voltage allows it to operate from unregulated or fluctuating 12V to 24V input supplies in noisy environments such as avionics, factory automation and industrial robotics. Analog Devices adds that the combination of Silent Switcher architecture, the wide operating frequency range, and multiple operating modes minimise the risk of EMI, suitable for noise- sensitive signal processing applications including imaging and RF systems.
The output voltage is adjustable with one resistor from 0.8V to 15V. This wide output voltage range means that a single product can be used to generate low voltage rails such as I/O and auxiliary voltages of digital ICs and common system bus voltages of 3.3, 5.0 and 12V.
The switching frequency can be set by an external single resistor ranging from 200kHz to 2.2MHz or can be synchronised to an external clock. The LTM8063 has four operating modes, namely Burst Mode operation, pulse-skipping mode, pulse-skipping mode with spread spectrum modulation and external sync mode.
Operating temperature range is –40 to +12 degree.
